Who is more creative: human or nature? Or maybe both? I think this is an endless argument that’s why the best way to solve it is to have a look at the issue at the point of their cooperation. A large variety of decorative gardens and parks have nothing to say if being compared with water fountains.
It feels like the water fountains are the most perfect way to combine the human creativity in the form of sculptures and the nature with its amazement of water flows and geysers.
Just check out our list to get a real aesthetic pleasure of human and nature split.
Trevi Fountain.
Most of the architectural critics consider it to be the best fountain of the world. While being located in the heart of Italy, in Rome this awesome fountain is designed in a way that is not done by other architectural buildings. It got its name from the meaning of “being in the middle of a crossroad joining three different roads”. The monument of the Triton is not the only “accessory” of the fountain as the last one is joined by various seahorses and other water world creatures. The main attraction of the place is its aesthetic beauty and the fact that every single detail of this fountain is very well thought. According to the local tradition if you throw a coin in the pool you will definitely return to Rome someday. I guess that’s the main reason why people “leave” about 3,000 Euros into the pool each day. Of course we might say that’s its not a waste of money as during the night the money is being collected and served as a money to buy food for the needy people.
Villa d’Este Gardens.
Italy which is considered to be a country with the best architectural traditions could not be left with a single fountain. That’s why here comes the second greatest creation. This water fountains is located at the Villa d’Este Tivoli. The main advantage of the place is that it is not only used for the attraction purpose but rather it’s also a garden. The green atmosphere adds additional beauty to this quite and cute place. The creator of this not earthy beauty is Cardinal Ippolito d’Este, who came here after he failed to become pope. His hard work was then carried out by the next generations which turned the garden into a paradise. Only in 1920 the villa became the property of the Italian State and soon it was opened to the public.
Alhambra and Generalife.
Though the place is divided into two separate compartments- Alhambra fortress and the Generalife gardens, they make such an organic unite that can be hardly divided. Originally they were built for the Muslim rulers of the Spain during the 13th and 14th centuries. “Architect’s gardens”- Generalife is a huge complex featuring fountains, canals, and other water sources surrounding the beautiful gardens. The various water fountains are too gorgeous not to be noticed in the jungles of the green gardens. All of its charm is more highlighted with s with their old-fashioned appearance and the leveled water flows.
Versailles Park and Fountains.
It took the creators almost 20 years to create such magnificence. And no one can doubt that it was worth it. After some time Versailles became one of the most visited places in France and the park started to get more and more visitors. Some of the fountains became the most popular ones around the world. Especially those that are next to the Versailles castle built by the popular French King Louis the Fourteenth. Three of the god-named fountains -the Apollo Fountain, the Neptune Fountain, and the Latona Fountains are the main ones.
Fountains at the Peterhof Palace.
The second informal capital of Russia- St. Petersburg is hosting this awesome water fountains are. No surprise that they are named after the Peterhof Palace. The Grand Cascade is a big complex featuring the water flows into the Samson Fountain and the Sea Channel. The Samson Fountain is more popular due to the sculpture of Samson defeating the lion. This statue was devoted to the Russia’s victory over Sweden in the Great Northern War. Unlike other water fountains these ones are not using pumps to operate the fountains which make them even more unique. Everything here is being done just as in nature with natural “pumps” and water elevation.
Fountains at Chatsworth House.
Located in one of the classical Counties of England- Derbyshire, the place features both natural cascading fountains and hot water geysers making the water almost touch the sky and tricky fountains that soak unsuspecting visitors. It was built in the late 1600’s by William Cavendish. The trickiest part about the fountains is the fact that some of them are shooting water high into the air as soon as you get too close to them- kind of scaring the visitors, so you better get ready. Another version of them is the most enjoyable – Chatsworth House fountains, the thing is you simply never know when they are going to erupt. The Sea Horse Fountain is being water-fed by the Water Cascade, where flows of water go down the elegant classical steps.
Mannekin Pis.
I guess none of you who ever got interested with architecture and water fountains will not be familiar with this water fountain placed in Brussels, Belgium. It features a sculpture of a small boy that is relieving himself in the pool of water. Was this a good reminder? No. Anyways it is believed that the fountain is coming back from the early Middle Ages, when the fountain served as a source of water-gaining for the casual essence. The sculpture was then reformed in1600s as the original seemed to be too old to handle new features of the upcoming centuries. The Mannekin Pis is one of the sculptures that are celebrating each of the national holidays in separate costumes. As for now the number of the costumes goes up to 600 including an Elvis Presley and a Mickey Mouse costume.
Jet d’eau.
Geneva, Switzerland is the hosting place for the cute Jet d’eau (water fountain if translated literally). This fountain is more of a geyser like as it’s simply sends around a half of a cubic meter of water straight up into the air to the height of 140 meters. The fountain is not only delighting during the daytime but also during the nighttime due to the fact that it’s being lit, which makes it possible to watch this beauty enjoying the calmness of the Swiss nights. The original date of the buildings goes back to 1891 but the lighting was added only in 1930.
Buckingham Fountain.
No, this fountain has almost nothing to do with the Buckingham Palace, well, except the naming. Actually it’s in Chicago, Illinois, in the middle of the one of the most popular parks- Grant Park. Here you will find a great combination of both water cascading, seahorses and the colored lights for the evening beauty. What else is needed to make it a masterpiece? Well, this might be the best gift ever for the brother of the Kate Buckingham -Clarence, who got it from the sister in 1927 and established a trust to help with its upkeep. The fountain can be called a symbolic representation of the Lake Michigan and the four seahorses placed on it represent the four states that are surrounding the Lake Michigan.
