Many of us think of far-away, exotic locations when we think of travels like holidays in Australia or South America, though we have some of the most beautiful, visit-worthy cities pretty much on our door steps.
Brighton
On the south coast of England, Brighton has of course beautiful beaches, which it is known for. While they might not be sandy beaches (they’re mostly pebbles), the marina and its pier makes up for it. On one of those rare warm summer days in the UK, Brighton’s coast buzzes with thousands of people from all over the country – completely undeterred by the pebbles, enjoying a cooling swim in the sea.
Manchester
Manchester claims to be the 2nd biggest city in the UK – but whether it is or not (Birmingham is fighting for that title too) –Manchester is fast becoming a 2nd London. It plays host to one of the largest shopping centres in Europe so if you are in a desperate need to spend a lot of money, you can’t find too many opportunities to buy stuff than at Trafford Centre.
While Manchester might be becoming a 2nd London, thankfully the prices aren’t following suit. When you’re here, you could check out the ‘Theatre of Dreams’ (the Old Trafford stadium – home to Manchester United) or you could explore the artsy atmosphere of the Northern Quarter or Chorlton.
Cambridge
There must be only a few Brits who haven’t heard of Cambridge. In fact, I’ll go as far as saying, there must be only a few people in the western world, who haven’t heard of Cambridge. The city in the east of England is host to one of the most prestigious universities in the UK, welcoming thousands of national and international students and visitors from all over the world.
With its beautiful colleges, pristine lawns and canals Cambridge University creates a unique, airy and relaxed atmosphere practically forcing an overwhelming sense of calm over you.
If you want a relaxing holiday, sitting by the river or punting down it, this place is it.
