While it’s not the most well-known or most glamorous of activities, visiting the Paris Sewer Museum is extremely interesting for both the kids and adults.
Another of Paris’s lesser known attractions are its catacombs and cemeteries. While people wouldn’t automatically think to head to a graveyard while on their summer holidays, there is something about the macabre that seems to appeal to us all and these wonderfully designed and deeply historic sites definitely fit the bill. The Cemetery of Pere Lachaise is an especially fascinating place to explore, its home to plenty of blocks of standard graves and above ground tombs reminding us of a by-gone era. They even hold cemetery treasure hunts so you can search for the grave sites of famous people like Chopin, the composer or French Banker, James Rothschild. Just scouting out and exploring the lives of these famous people makes for a fascinating day.
While the traditional tourist spots in Paris are most definitely worth visiting, don’t forget to try out the various less visited sites as well. You can start to see the city through a more local perspective and find plenty more enjoyment off the beaten path.
