There are places on our mother planet, which are great but which because of lack of popularity almost always remain in the shadow. It refers to several countries, cities and sites. Being the westernmost European capital, Lisbon has lots of amazing things-to-see sites and family-friendly attractions to offer its visitors but surprisingly, it is less popular than many other European capitals, which welcome plenty of tourists throughout the year and from every corner of the world.
Nevertheless, Lisbon is pretty interesting, and those who have been there have always been pleased and happy with their European travel destination. People usually choose to visit central Lisbon and the main attractions, and today we are offering that you arrange you time in the Portuguese capital so as to be able to travel to the south of the city and pay a visit to Arrabida Natural Park.
The nature in this part of Lisbon is beyond awesome. With its beauty it can be compared with the Cantabrian region of Spain. In both areas the green of nature seems to come in different hues that impress and stun the eye.
The pine covered park with its splendid Mediterranean flora is a relaxing spot which can be worthily claimed to be the most peaceful part of Lisbon. The trip to the park starts with a town located 30 minutes from Lisbon. It’s called Palmela, which is particularly known for its castle. Note that the trip to Palmela will provide an opportunity to cross one of the nicest bridges in Lisbon, which is the longest in Europe – Vasco da Gama Bridge.
There are several tracks to follow in the park. The tracks are designed so as to meet the demands of visitors, therefore before starting your exploration you can simply decide if you would like to have a short hike or a longer one.
The Windmill track, which got its name because of the great number of windmills there, is one track to opt for if you have time. It’s the best track to admire the beautiful Arrabida mountain range. If the weather is good, then you will be able to spot dynamic Lisbon as well. The track will also allow you to get acquainted with some pages of Portuguese history, which will be recounted in Castro de Chibanes dating to the Copper Age.
If you don’t have too much time but have the wish to get to know the park, then follow the trails of Terras do Risco. It’s 4 kilometers long and overall, it will take 2 hours to walk into the park and return to the starting point.
To get to Arrabida Natural Park, you can either rent a car, or take public transport. There are buses, which will take to where the tracks start. Another option is Fertagus train.
Lastly, make sure to visit Portinho da Arrabida Beach where you cn swim or spend some most peaceful time.
