It’s hard to imagine a single Lisbon tourist who has left the Portuguese capital without proper shopping. Note that by proper shopping we do not imply buying hundreds of things but what we do imply is that you take back home a piece of Lisbon – it might be souvenirs for you and your friends, a bag with the picture of popular Lisbon tram 28 or cups.
Being an up-to-date city Lisbon has managed to successfully preserve its history through its architecture observed on the buildings. And there are shops which create the feeling of the past years. If you love hats you can visit the popular hat shop, for example, or the candle shop, which seems to be magical due to its colors and perfect interior design and decoration. Now let’s see where you can get the best Ginjinha and canned fish.
A Ginjinha
If you are in Portugal, then it’s a must for you to drink Ginjinha. It’s a liqueur made by infusing ginja berries in alcohol and adding sugar together with other ingredients. This drink is most popular with Portuguese people.
The best shop where you can find this excellent drink is located is Rossio Square and as you might have guessed it’s called A Ginjinha. The shop gives an opportunity not only to buy a bottle of Ginjinha but also have a glass of it there. You will be pleasantly surprised at the low prices of this drink. Quality at a low price is really hard to find. A glass of Ginjinha will cost you EUR 1.10 more or less.
Note that Ginjinha is not the only drink the shop offers. There are also other drinks available, including gooseberry syrup. The shop is open every day from 9 am to 7 pm.
Conserveira de Lisboa
Conserveira de Lisboa is an amazing shop, where you will simply appear in a world of colorful tins with Portuguese fish. At the moment of its establishment in 1930 the shop had a different name – Mercearia do Minho – and used to offer various not only canned fish but other products as well. After World War II the demand for canned fish grew rapidly and therefore the shop was enjoying the best times of its glory.
However, the glorious times passed, and frankly speaking quite quickly since frozen goods gained more popularity. Since 1930, this shop has gone through various times and has experienced glory and “neglect” however, it still is there and offers best quality products.
Note that these canned fish products can also be a worthy gift for your relatives who love them. The shop is open from Monday to Saturday from 9 am to 7 pm.
