Akatushka Orchid Gardens
Stuffed with the largest collection of tropical flowers and over a thousand species of colorful orchids on the Big Island, a gift shop full of quirky and fun souvenirs, including T-shirts, fragrances and the like, Akatushka Orchid Garden is a perfect place to stop when visiting Volcanoes National Park, Hawaii. Established in 1978, the garden invites nature lovers to come and see the award-winning blooming display of orchids and cut flowers. For those who want to grow their own orchids, the garden sells a huge collection of orchid plants and can pack and ship to anywhere in the world. Seeds and starters for papaya, guava, hibiscus and bamboo orchids are also available on sale. Open daily 8:30am -5:00pm and closed on major holidays. The entrance is free.
Orchid Garden Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur is home to many natural and manmade attractions, but what draws the attention of nature lovers more is its awe-inspiring Orchid Garden, set to showcase the various species of orchid plants from around the world (about 3,000 species with 800 being from Malaysia alone). An adjoining section is devoted to the hibiscus, Malaysia’s national flower and showcases more than 2,000 varieties of hibiscuses. Covering an area of approximately 1 hectare, Kuala Lumpur Orchid Garden is located at the highest point of Lake Garden and was established on the year 1986. During weekends the Garden is transformed into a bazaar, from where visitors can buy both orchid and hibiscus plants. Open Monday to Sunday from 9:00am to 6:00pm.
National Orchid Garden Singapore
Housed on Singapore Botanic Gardens, the amazing National Orchid Garden opened its doors to visitors on 20 October 1995. Spread over three hectares of carefully landscaped slopes, the garden comes with an exclusive concept, presenting the display of plants on four separate color zones: the ‘spring’ zone, where bright shades of gold, yellow and creams prevails; the ‘summer’ zone, characterized by its major tones of strong red and pinks; the ‘autumn’ zone with its matured shades; and finally the ‘winter’ zone, naturally with its white and cool blue colors. Join a free tour of Orchid Garden on the third Saturday of each month to learn all about these unique flowers, from how to recognize an orchid to how to care for them. Open daily 8:30am-7:00pm (last ticket sales at 6:00pm). Admission fee is $5 for adults, $1 for students, $1 for people 60 and above and free for children below 12 years.
Phuket Orchid Garden & Thai Village
Located in the Samkong district, in a tranquil and peaceful lakeside area, Phuket Orchid Farm Garden and Thai Village is a nice place to visit while tripping in Phuket. The village is really a ‘stage presentation’ that portrays the colors of Thai culture, and the orchid Garden, covering an area of 8,000 square meters, comes with more than 1,500 species of orchids with a lot of new and different hybrids. Open daily from 9:00am-5:30pm. In the area of the garden drinks, beverages and light refreshments are available, as well as homemade passionfruit ice cream, well worth a try.
