French movies are more family movies that bring together the entire family. With their brilliant play talented French actors and remarkable French actresses have made our days for many long years. Presently, those actors have become older and their movies have got a bit overshadowed by the effects of present-day technologies and those kind movies have appeared out of “fashion and trends.”
The two actors we are going to speak about are the symbols of French movies especially of 1980s-1990s. Any movie by them was “doomed” to become popular, to entertain and why not, prolong the life of people since one of the healthiest things in this life is to laugh and be happy. A laughter that seemed not to end ever, a sparkle of happiness in the eyes that seemed to shine brighter than the lamps in our rooms and a “hurt” butts because of falling from the couch each time you can’t keep laughing. Those people who have had the luck to enjoy movies by these actors had an awesome childhood. They are Pierre Richard and Gerard Depardieu who are perhaps one of the few actors who have starred in so many movies together.
Pierre Richard
Pierre Richard: the actor with curly hair and typical French appearance managed to entice its audience with his talent.
Pierre Richard is a comedian born in Valenciennes in the North of France in 1934. The major breakthrough in the actor’s career was reported in the 1970s. Before that he was playing in the theater and had some minor roles but as they say “nothing serious.” In the beginning of 1970s he got a role in the “Daydreamer” and “The Troubles of Alfred” in which his excellence was more than obvious. It was then followed by “The Tall Blond with One Black Shoe” movie, which was a huge success. If you haven’t watched especially the last movie, you simply ought to.
Pierre Richard got married three times and got divorced three times. He has two sons and they both are into art — they are musicians. In general, Pierre Richard lives in the French capital and for many years he used to live on a barge on the Seine River rather an apartment. Can their be a better spot for an artist to stay in Paris, especially if we consider that some of the most important Paris sites among them the Eiffel Tower and the Notre-Dame Cathedral are one of the first buildings you will be seeing at sunrise and sunset.
Besides being an actor, Pierre Richard also sings and has directed several movies. It needs a special mention that Pierre Richard has come to be a businessman and quite a successful one. On of the nicest restaurants in Paris — Au pied de chameau — belongs to him. But it’s not all. The actor has a 20-hectare vineyard, which produces 80.000 bottles of wine annually. As they say, talented people are talented in everything, right?
Some of the movies in which Pierre Richard starred are — The Tall Blond Man with One Black Shoe (1972), Fugitives Fugitives (1986), La Chevre (1981) and so on.
Gerard Depardieu
Always there to get angry at Francois Perrin (one of Pierre Richard roles), to help him out, to decide to leave not being able to stand him anymore and then come back because without him Perrin will definitely get into trouble — it’s one of the roles Gerard Depardieu played with Pierre Richard.
Born in 1948, Gerard Depardieu has been into film industry since 1960 and is estimated to have played in 170 movies since 1967. It’s a quite imposing number for an actor, and at the same time speaks of his being demanded and loved. Unlike Pierre Richard, Gerard has appeared in comedy movies, dramas and tragedies.
Had not Gerard Depardieu become an actor he would probably become a businessman. Why do I think so? Gerard did not like school that much and spent more time out of the classroom than inside it. As a result, he left school when he was only 12. And it’s an open secret that most people who leave school or get no education at all, have to work at an early age, become the wealthiest in the world. Whatever, Gerard Depardieu became an actor.
The “Going Places” movie shot in 1974 was a turning point for Gerard. He introduced a new type of hero which was accpted by the society and became quit popular by both Paris people and the French. In 1990, Gerard Depardieu played in the movie “Cyrano de Bergerac“based on a novel by Edmond Rostand. The movie tells about a cadet and joyful poet who hopelessly falls in love and only at his last breath finds courage to declare his love for her and all that because of his large nose of which he was greatly ashamed.
Some of the movies Gerard Depardieu is known for are Cyrano de Bergerac (1990), The Man in the Iron Mask (1998), Asterix and Obelix movie series, La Chevre (1981) and so on.
