Today, unfortunately, the concept of a zoo is associated with a small place where the animals live in small cages with little air to breathe, little space to move and little likelihood to be happy. This idea is enough for many people to permanently give up on the idea of visiting a zoo. But what if there is a zoo is the most western part of Europe where the animals seem most delighted and contented. Lisbon Zoo comes to break all the stereotypes regarding the zoos.
Lisbon Zoo is located close to one of the best hotels in Lisbon offering excellent service – to Corinthia Hotel. The zoo’s animal world is diverse and stands out with its richness. Lisbon Zoo shelters various types of mammals, reptiles, birds and so on. Some of the most spectacular mammals residing in the Zoo are – addaxes, axis deer, American bison, hippos, cheetah, kangaroo of Bennett, koalas, leopards, oryx leucoryx, pumas, African elephants, white rhinoceros, Grevy’s zebra and so on. Especially interesting is the variety of monkeys, among them chimpanzees, siamangs, Diana monkeys, golden lion tamarins and emperor tamarins.
Want to get amazed by the vivid colors and lift your spirits? Maybe it’s high time that you switch from mammals to birds? Blue and yellow macaws, macaws Jacinta, cassowaries, nandus, orange winged Amazons, kookaburras and so on will brighten up your day. The most noteworthy and exciting bird of the zoo is perhaps the white-throated Toucan, which is a bird typical of mostly South American countries.
The zoo opens at 10 am throughout the year and closes at 6 pm in winter period and at 8 pm in summer period. The zoo organizes daily presentations, which are beyond impressive and striking. Visitors are offered to watch the feeding of the sea lions and pelicans, to take the zoo train ride, which takes 15 minutes and so on. It should be noted that in case of bad weather, some of the activities envisioned to be held in the park, might be canceled.
As to the entry costs, only children under 2 years of age can enter the zoo free of charge. For the rest of the visitors the tickets start at 12.50 Euros. There are certain rules for all the visitors that apply at the moment they enter the park. They are easy but very often are being ignored by most of visitors. Some of the rules are the following; to keep the zoo clean, not to feed the animals, not to scream, not to use devices like radios or players. Also, it is important to keep the ticket throughout your visit to the park.
Lastly, do you have a pet (dogs, cats, reptiles)? If you do, then did you ever think of providing some luxury for him too? Thinking like what? Maybe booking a pet hotel. Yes, you heard it right, a pet hotel that was opened in Lisbon Zoo and includes all the necessary facilities for your pet to enjoy his/her time there. Your pet is sure to get proper attention and care as well as medical treatments, if there is any need. One thing to consider are the admission rules, though.
Have a great time and enjoy to the fullest!
