Although I have been praising the simple and reachable style of Lisbon’s architecture, there is one hotel that reminds me of the heavenly pleasure of luxury. Alfama, Fado, and many other peculiarities of Lisbon are a total must, but if you don’t mind locking yourself up in a hotel and living a day or two like a royalty, then highlight this name on your list, Olissippo Lapa Palace.
I’m generally for affordable hotels, sightseeing instead of hanging out in a spa center all day, I believe Lisbon’s history, cuisine, and culture should be the main goal of any tourist, but this hotel has moved the luxurious self in me.
There are 109 excellent rooms with individual and royal-style furnishing, just like a real palace. There are three restaurants on site, Lapa, Monsanto and Le Pavillion. Accessibility features are provided, the hotel is not too far away from the key attractions.
It’s a 5-star hotel, a member of Leading Hotels of the World, therefore I will skip the usual conveniences like the three restaurants, the indoor and outdoor pools and the rest of medium-scale temptation. Let’s get to the unique parts, things you won’t find in every 5-star hotel, conveniences that will make you want to go there.
- Let’s start with the most interesting thing I came across, the Pillow Menu. Any experienced tourist has at least once in his tourist life encountered an uncomfortable hotel pillow. Well, the Pillow Menu offers the variety of pillows the hotel has, you can pick and choose in accordance with your preferences. Brilliant, isn’t it?
- Pets are allowed in this hotel, but as strange as it might sound, the pets should weigh no more than 5 kilograms. Of course, I have absolutely no idea why the numbers count in this case, but make sure to check the weight of your pet before traveling here. I wonder what would happen if I went there with one of the tallest dogs in the world, which also happens to be no more than 5 kilograms. The opposite is also interesting. My friend has a very small cat, but judging by the amount it eats, we’re talking of more than 5 kilos.
- The Spa Center is a relaxing vacation itself. There is a sauna, a steam and Turkish bath, massage services are available. Moreover, there is a big variety of massage types in this spa. However, you have to be 18+ to enjoy this treasure all by yourself. If you haven’t cut the cake of your 18th birthday yet, ask a parent or a guardian to accompany you to the center. I know you might have preferred a different company in the sauna, rather than chilling out with your dad. Also, you have to book the services beforehand.
Although I have often seen this practice in other hotels, but the minimum age for check-out is also 18.
If I sound too positive, even suspiciously positive, check out the reviews. Every guest that has ever visited this place praises it. It’s definitely one of the most luxurious hotels in the world, Moreover, maybe it really is the piece of man-made heaven in Lisbon.
