With the economy the way it is, many people are looking to save money not only on the cost of weddings, but on the cost of the subsequent honeymoons. Galapagos Islands cruise specials are nice to find, as are great deals to Europe or Hawaii. Or you can hone in on a continent full of amazing and affordable destinations that are no less romantic than Paris and Venice and that won’t shatter your bank accounts.
Central and South America is ripe with breathtaking landscapes, warm beaches, fascinating cultures, and fun adventures. If you and your lovebird are looking for a wonderful and economical honeymoon, check out some of these cities in the other America:
Costa Rica
This Latin American country is well aware of it’s tourist stature and has invested broadly in the support infrastructure necessary to keep people coming back. Why have a honeymoon here? Well, if you’ve ever seen the movie Joe Vs. The Volcano you know how potentially romantic a violent eruption of magma can be. Costa Rica is home to many volcanos, as well as a rich natural ecosystem of lush forests and beautiful mountains. Spend your mornings swinging with your loved one in a hammock on the beach, then set out for an adventure into the tropical jungles, and cap it all off with a sunset cocktail on the lip of bubbling volcano. Not convinced yet. Perhaps the insanely cheap round-trip airfare will convince you.
Ecuador
If affordability is your major concern, then Ecuador is probably your best bet. Everything there is basically half off and it was cheap to begin with. But this isn’t to suggest you’ll be honeymooning in an alleyway. Ecuador is an absolutely gorgeous country, bordered by tropical jungles and Pacific waters. With a diverse array of climates and landscapes, there’s no end to the romantic adventures you can discover here, and no end to the plant life and eco-diversity, from wild orchids to monkeys and bizarre insects. Indulge in river rafting, mountain-climbing, horseback-riding, bird-watching, and any number of rich cultural traditions for a truly mind-opening, and affordable, honeymoon.
Argentina
If you’re looking for a more European feel in your honeymoon, Argentina may be the choice for you. The city Rio de la Plata in eastern Argentina, borders Uruguay and is the country’s oldest and most storied link to Spain and its European roots. Or for dancing, steak, glaciers, and Pampas, journey into the capital city, Buenos Aires, to discover why Argentina is sometimes called the ‘Paris of the Americas’. But Argentina isn’t anywhere close to the price of Paris, in terms of getting there, staying there, and eating there. As a bonus, the people in Argentina are supposed to be incredibly nice and welcoming, so you should have no problem learning to tango.
