The third week of December has arrived, which means that almost every corner of the world gets ready for the most wonderful time of the year – Christmas. Singapore is no exception. Christmas spirit here is at its craziest, with many lights and Christmas trees, amazing decorations and events; whatever you see, wherever you go, there is certainly something that reminds you of Christmas. Here are some ways to get into the Christmas mood in Singapore and revel in this merry holiday.
Head Down to Orchard Road
A must-see getaway which during the festive season transforms into an enchanting winter wonderland of twinkling stars and sparkling diamonds, the Orchard Road welcomes visitors of all ages for a Christmas magic of a lifetime. A major attraction for locals and international travelers alike, the Orchard Road bursts with Christmas for the 28th time, bringing people lots of joy and happiness. The annual Orchard Road Christmas Light-Up Ceremony was held in November 23, with the color theme for the year of 2013 being the hues of blue and white. Orchard Road is characterized with its numerous shopping centers, including Tangs, ION, Takashimaya and Wisma Atria, which during the festive season become more and more stunning with unique decorations and Christmas effects.
Be a Glutton: Have a Christmas Feast
Everyone will agree that one of the reasons people adore Xmas is the Christmas dinner with your loved ones; a table of sumptuous Christmas delights, laughter and love. Turkeys, candy canes, snow chocolate, poinsettias, mistletoes and log cakes, how one can miss out that joyous dinner? And while many Singaporeans enjoy preparing something special at home, others prefer to wine and dine at one of the city-state’s many restaurants, offering special Christmas dinners in relaxing environments.
Olivia Cassivelaun Fancourt, for instance, is such kind of place. In this 50-seat restaurant Chef Jonathan Koh has put together a 7-course Christmas Eve Dinner menu with King Oyster Mushroom with black truffles, a mouth-watering pigeon with coco beans and black truffles jus, and a dessert made up of espresso mousse, cocoa nibs and ristretto ice cream. Dinners are also offered at restaurants of luxury Singapore hotels, with one such getaway being Carlton Hotel Singapore. Here you guests are treated with such dishes as the traditional whole Turkey, mashed potato, buttered seasonable vegetable and butternut squash veloute.
Make a date with Santa and his family of hardworking elves at the Port of Lost Wonder
Christmas is extra special at the adventure-filled Port of Lost Wonder, hosting six wonderlands, each blessed with loads of fun activities for kiddoes. Here both parents and littlies have the chance to meet Santa Clause, Mrs. Clause an Santa’s newest little helpers. Admission is free for adults, but $19.90 for kids who are Port of Lost Wonder members, and $25 for walk-ins.
Shop at Marina Square Mall
Singapore’s shopping malls compete furiously at this important celebration for the annual Best Dressed Building award. Almost in all malls visitors are sure to see stunning Christmas trees, carolers, reindeer and fake snow, not to mention the Christmas sales, offering truly massive discounts. Marina Square Fall has it all. Stepping into this huge 3500 sq ft atrium, you’ll feel as if you are in Santa’s village. Surrounding a tastefully-decorated 10-meter high Christmas Tree are Santa, his reindeers, sleighs, snowmen, penguins, toy soldiers and Santa’s hut. What you should do is to shop and enjoy. In this Christmas wonderland your kids will go wild trudging through the ‘snow’ and getting covered head to toe.
All of Singapore comes alive at Christmas. Everywhere there are public performances and fireworks, food and singing, great shopping, and endless programs and activities your kids will surely appreciate.
