As I sit here looking at the oversized treadmill that I have recently purchased, and will soon be returning thanks to its ridiculous size, my mind is drawn to some of the other New Year’s resolutions that I have acted all too quickly on as well as others that I haven’t followed through at all. Whilst this year’s resolution may have gone a bit downhill, last year’s is still working even now and is something that I can do nothing but recommend, at the turn of 2012, I decided to go and learn Spanish in Spain.
Why Do I Need To Learn A Language?
Learning a language was something that I had always wanted to do but it always seemed like a dream, something that only people with a lot more free time than me were able to do. However, after a rough 2011, I decided that 2012 was going to be my year and booked myself onto some intensive Spanish language courses in Spain! Look at me, all spontaneous. I had recently started a graduate scheme in buying and had no idea how much the international side of things would play a part in my everyday life, something that really motivated me to pull my finger out and do a bit of language study.
Deciding to learn Spanish in Spain opened up tonnes of doors in my workplace, allowing me to put myself forward for placements and projects that I would never previously have dared applying for. With the basic level of Spanish that I gained from my intensive language courses, I flourished in the international side of my job and helped myself from then on, studying language websites and listening to Spanish radio in order to give myself the vocabulary I would need to use my skills in my everyday life, working in buying. Nowadays, after setting up a conversation exchange with local Erasmus students, my Spanish has come on a long way and I have even booked myself back on an intermediate course for the Easter break! Go on, what can you do this year to make a difference? While you think about that, I am going to wrap this treadmill back up…surely I can still send it back if it hasn’t been used…
