Love is not all — claim those who have loved someone who has never respected and trusted them. While, the great love is interrelated with respect and trust and that is when we can start talking about romance. What does being romantic imply first of all? It’s the prevalence of feeling over the libido, which in its turn leads to the present-day perception of love — making surprises, buying gifts, presenting flowers and so on.
Lisbon is recently often being regarded as one of the most romantic cities in all Europe, and it might be due to the lack of excessive luxury presently peculiar to the capital cities of many countries. Lisbon has kept it all simple, and that is the reason why many lovers choose to spend their time in Lisbon, because love itself is simple and it’s more for modesty than for showing off.
Miradouro de Sao Pedro de Alcantara in Lisbon
Miradouro de Sao Pedro de Alcantara in Lisbon is one of the most romantic venues. There is a splendid and quiet garden established in the 19th century, where the sound of leaves caused by rustling and the song of the birds make you feel in a fairy tale.
The view this look-point offers is simply mesmerizing. With Avenida de Liberdade, the Tagus, the Sao Jorge Castle, the Sao Vicente de Fora Church in front of you — some of the most interesting sites in Lisbon — there will be only one thing missing — a warm hug.
If it were not for finding the perfect romantic spots in Lisbon, I would recommend you to visit the Miradouro de Santa Luzia as well. The miradouro overlooks the Tagus River and the old Alfama district.
Lisbon Tropical Garden
Lisbon tropical garden is not so popular with Lisbon tourists. But if you are looking for a romantic destination, then you should not miss it. The garden was established in the early 20th century, in 1906, that is prior to World War I. At the time of its creation it already had 4000 species of tropical plants.
Irrespective of how much knowledge you have of tropical plants, the garden will astonish you with its richness. The palm trees as well as the dragon trees from the Canary Islands give unique attractiveness to the garden. The visit to the garden promises to be educational as well, of course if you would like.
Parque das Nações
Those who have been to the historic part of Lisbon or have walked along the streets of Lisbon should already have some idea of Lisbon’s architecture and architectural solutions. They might not be able to interpret but deep inside the overall idea is formed. Parque das Nações (the Park of the Nations) is one place where you might question the knowledge you have gained so far in Lisbon. Lisbon/Parque das Nações ratio is the same as Spain/Bilbao ratio. Those who have been to Spain, including Bilbao must have already understood my point. Just like Bilbao, Parque das Nações features futuristic architecture.
The park was set up by Expo 98 architects during the World Fair. The theme was titled “The Oceans: A Heritage for the Future,” imagine how far the imagination of the architects took them to accomplish the goal.
During daytime, the park is a favorite destination for families with kids but as the sun starts setting, it gets more and more romantic with the moon above you and the lights of the longest European bridge — Vasco da Gama Bridge next to you. The Tagus also becomes part of this romance. So the city and the nature create the best romantic spot for you and your sweetheart. Make sure to have a blanket with you, a bottle of wine and some food, as you will spend a few hours lying on the green grass and the stars recounting sweetest love stories to you.
