Let’s face it, social networks and digital cameras had made it unbearable to travel. You come back home and fall under a question attack. Where have you been? What have you been doing? How was Lisbon? And so many questions one’s imagination just can’t contain.
So, you start showing them your best photos, where you’re all dressed up, with makeup, a hairdo, and so on. Interestingly, friends and family usually don’t even think that the more fancy you look, the more uncomfortable your day was.
Photos are also important, but there are no photos with no sightseeing. Therefore, why don’t you find some places of interest, dress up comfortably, and than think about how to take photos of Lisbon?
The number one criterion of comfortable sightseeing is taking the right shoes. When you have walked miles, climbed the stairs of cathedrals, or went dancing for hours, you shoes will be the only buddy to take you home. So, let’s go over your shoe baggage.
High Heels – Although we start the list with the most uncomfortable shoes (and if you like active rest, you will hardly even wear them), but one pair of high heels is a must. Despite that, remember that high heels are not worn in daily life. They are reserved for formal evenings or clubs (even here, there is a certain number of such clubs).
As a rule, you will have chance to wear them if you’re staying in Lisbon for more than 3 days. You may be invited to a dinner by your new Portuguese friends, go for a classy meal in a classy restaurant, or simple go to a club to relax and have fun. Despite this, make sure even you’re high heels are comfortable. You must be able to walk in them.
Flats – This category includes all kinds of flat shoes, except sneakers and flip flops. They are also a must. Sneakers are great for walking, but you will hardly enter a church or a prestigious museum in them. Actually you can, but I would definitely choose the flats. They don’t have to be fancy, just presentable in average situations.
Sneakers – Here we come to the most logical and common shoes. If I were you, I would even pack two of them. Normally we don’t wear sneakers at home too much. This means that your favorite pair of, one of the most expensive sneakers in the world, happen to be as painful as hell. You will discover its power only after testing it while traveling. Wear sneakers for the days dedicated to walking. For example, the district of Alfama, going shopping, Monument of Discoveries, and many other sights require you wear sneakers.
Flip flops — This type of shoes is very typical to the climate of your destination. Obviously, you have to look up the weather of Lisbon before traveling there. If you think there will be a chance to go to the beach, take a pair of flip flops. Otherwise they’re pretty uncomfortable to wear them.
If you damage one of your shoes, you can always get another pair from Lisbon. The only exception is the high heels. Getting a new pair of Louboutin will mean giving up a stay at a luxurious hotel.
