The Tagus is usually not mentioned as a Lisbon attraction, but there is hardly any Lisbon tourist who has missed the sight of the river and its nearby attractions. The Tagus River is a 1038 kilometer long river which flows through two countries – Spain and Portugal. Several hundred years ago the Tagus, which is the longest river in the Iberian Peninsula, bore strategic significance for both countries. Presently, the river still bears importance with its natural resources but it has also turned into a major site for many people, be they people of Lisbon or ordinary tourists.
Lisbon would probably not be this interesting and impressive without the Tagus, across which the spectacular Vasco Da Gama Bridge stretches, which is the longest bridge in all Europe.
