Not every hotel is as friendly as they are described on their website and not every hotel provides the range of services mentioned on their website or on the phone. On this score, whenever you are booking a room in a lesser known hotel, you never know what will be awaiting you there — comfort or inconvenience, good atmosphere or spoiled mood. The hotel we are going to introduce today is not one of the best hotels in Lisbon, and it doesn’t always manage to meet the demands of its guests. On this score, it is highly important to know the pros and cons of your temporary home.
Pouso dos Anjos is a hotel located in downtown Lisbon. It was previously the home of a countess, and which was converted into a hotel in the last few years. The building of the hotel itself dates to the Era of Marques de Pombal.
The hotel is not a large one. The staff is multilingual, so if you haven’t managed to learn some Portuguese, English will be a solution here. The hotel has 32 rooms, which lack luxury but are rather cozy. The rooms include a cable TV, private shower and beds. Desks can be included upon request. Note that there is Internet connection in the hotel but it is limited to the lobby. If you want to have it in your room, you will have to pay additional 5 Euros. The cheapest room comes at 30 Euros during the low season and at 39 Euros during the high season.
In the back of the hotel, there is a nice garden, if you would like to have a morning coffee in the open air or an evening meal.
Now that you have some idea of the hotel, let’s talk about the other, the “dirtier” side. The hotel has a bit hidden location and is a bit hard to find. You might even start thinking that it doesn’t exist at all, but it does exist and can be found on Rua dos Anjos, 31. Next, the rooms are really well designed and the coloring creates a feeling of comfort. But you might go there and find out that the sheets are not clean, or if you are staying for over two or three days you might notice that the towels are not changed either. There is no any elevator, which can become a real problem for you if you have heavy luggage with you as you will have to carry it all the way to your room.
Since this is a budget hotel and a very basic one, it has no restaurant. It’s good and bad at the same time. It’s good as you will have an opportunity to try the Portuguese cuisine in different Lisbon restaurants and cafes, compare and in the end, choose the best places to dine or sip wine. And it’s bad, because many people are used to having breakfast early in the morning or eating something late at night, and wouldn’t like going out all every time they want to eat.
Lastly, when booking a room in this hotel think twice and decide for yourself which is better — to have a high-service hostel or a low-quality hotel? If you are not afraid of having a spoiled vacation because of poor service at your hotel, then go ahead and enjoy most of your time in the Portuguese capital.
