We have talked about a lot of cultural and historical attractions, we have also observed the history of Lisbon through some of its sites. Most interestingly though, we haven’t touched the other side of the coin yet. Tiles, Alfama, and art are not the only things that Lisbon is famous for. It has been one of the best European nightlife cities since 1990s.
Unfortunately, it has fallen back in recent years, but high-class clubs still maintain their reputation. One of those high class clubs is Kapital. Clubs usually open very late. Those who open early are as a rule very boring. Take your time to having a nice Portuguese meal, go for some bars, raise your mood, and set off to the clubs.
Kapital Club belongs to K Group, which is the owner of a number of clubs in Portugal. Kapital, however, is the most prestigious one. The club was opened in 1990s and quickly established itself as a club for the elite. The status is still there, you might encounter businessmen, politicians, entertainers, celebrities, and so on.
The club has three floors, and each of them is a separate social level, in a sense. You will find different kind of music genre on every floor. The music mainly ranges from pop and dance to electronic and house. The top floor is the VIP zone. You can, of course, reserve a table, get your friends, a few credit cards, and spend the night up there, but you will have to get into the club first.
One of the problems is the queue that can be way too long on weekends. Regular visitors will have exclusive access because they know the doorman, it’s normal. If you want to get in as soon as possible, you will have to come early, when the club is not too full.
Another problem you might come across is the dress code. The dress code in the Kaptal is very strict. Don’t even try to get in with sneakers or similar sportswear. Remember, it’s one of the most prestigious clubs, you will have to get back to your hotel and find a suitable outfit.
Kapital is also know for its prices, which are quite high. Expect to spend a lot of money here. The interior design is a successful combination of classic and modern. You will hardly see anything futuristic or vintage, everything is so perfect you can’t even call names.
Make sure not to get too drunk, because you might be dancing with a local celebrity. It would be a disappointment not to remember them every day. True, you will have to be familiar with Portuguese music (not only Fado) to recognize them, but you still have a chance to guess by looking at the reactions of other people.
The club opens at 11 pm and rocks the night till 6 am. Despite this, I wouldn’t recommend you going there earlier than 1 am. If you do, you’ll just have to sit quietly, find interesting topics to talk about, and spend crazy money on Margaritas. If you happen to be at the right place at the right time . . . and in the right outfit . . . Kapital guarantees a fantastic night. Don’t forget the camera, it’ll be your only source to find out how your night went.
