Sala Silvermine Hotel, one of the weirdest hotels in the world, is located in Sweden. It’s comprised of real mines that run155 metres deep into the soil. These mines were very popular during the industrial period, when tons of silver was literally taken from them by hand starting from the 15th century.
The rooms and general environment you’ll see today were initially built for the miners working here. They were turned into a hotel in 2006. While there is a basic toilet in the underground floors, you’ll need to go upstairs to take a shower. The restaurant is also upstairs. By the way, the “Upstairs” can be reached by an elevator, but you still have to get to its doors.
I wouldn’t advise you to stay here, if you have claustrophobia. If you can’t stand a minute without Internet connection, this might be another reason to skip the hotel.
It might sound scary, but you can’t call from here too! Mobile phones simply don’t work. You’ll be given an intercom radio to communicate to the staff. The hotels makes sure there is always one person upstairs next to the radio. This person is responsible for responding to your requests and answer the questions even in the middle of the night.
While any information about this hotel sounds a bit extreme, it has some loyal fans and seems to be one of the most popular accommodations in the area. The hotel claims its mine suit is booked almost every weekend, so you need to hurry up!
