They include: Santorini, Corfu, Crete, Mykonos, Zakynthos, Thassos, Milos, Rhodes, Kefalonia, Hydra, Skiathos, Lesvos and many others. But as far as we have already introduced some of them in our previous posts, particularly Crete, Santorini, Corfu, Mykonos and Zakynthos, in today’s post we’ll describe the others, which are also of great interest and have much to offer in terms of attractions and adventures.
Thassos
Hidden coves and sandy stretches of golden beaches. Historic ruins and small picturesque villages. A wealth of amazing resorts. Add to this a fair sprinkling of sunshine and awe-inspiring local cuisine. This is how a holiday to the enticing Thassos Island looks like. A scenic, small circular islands ideally nestled some 7 km off mainland Greece in the north Aegean Sea, Thassos is a still relatively unspoiled getaway that is not on the main tourist track, however, there is enough entertainment to ensure your unforgettable holidays. Thassos also features a town of the same name, which is the largest on the island, full of sightseeing proposals.
Milos
Actually nothing but a beautiful, horseshoe-shaped mountainous island found on the southeast Cyclades Islands, Milos has come to prominence in the past decade as being one of the most desirable tourist destinations in Europe. A little like Santorini, as it too is a volcanic island with amazing rock formations, Milos is famous for its unique, fabulous beaches with one of the most remarkable being Sarakiniko, a place which has smooth ceramic-like white rocks and a little inlet with a pool at the end, perfect for swimming and snorkeling; a number of interesting museums worth visiting, including the Mining Museum, and the Catacombs; charming villages, with the largest being Adamas, which is also the main port of Milos; and amazing archaeological sites built between 2,300 and 1,100 BC. The island became famous, because of the statue of Aphrodite found here, which now adorns the Louvre in Paris.
Rhodes
Another popular island in Greece that could rival Santorini and Mykonos in terms of popularity, Rhodes offers plenty of sightseeing, a vast selection of budget-to-luxury hotels and endless variety of activities, sports lovers always appreciate. The coastline of the island is embellished with golden sands, rocky beaches and crystal clear waters. The island is renowned worldwide for its statue of Colossus, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Another highlight of the island is the walled old town of Rhodes, a successive effort of the Knights Hospitaller of St. John and the Ottomans, which has justly gained UNESCO World Heritage status and never fails to amaze visitors with its sandstone architecture, flying buttresses over cobbled streets and a skyline stoked with minarets and swaying palm trees. One of the advantages of Rhodes island is that it is well connected with the other major Greek cities and islands as well as with major European capitals and cities via charter flights.
Skiathos
Like a breath of fresh air, the majestic Skiathos Island is again a very popular holiday hotspot in Greece, located between Skopelos and Volos Town that can get really crowded during the summer months (July through August) by holidaymakers looking for long and golden sandy beaches, sunny weather and great outdoors. Skiathos Town, which is the capital and main port of the island, where visitors will find many touristy facilities from travel agencies to shops, restaurants and bars, as well as various accommodation options to ensure your comfortable and memorable stay. From picture-perfect landscapes to pine clad hills, Skiathos will enchant you from the moment you step off the plane.
Hydra
Another pretty island getaway in Greece, blessed with one-of-a-kind architecture, spectacular natural beauty and plenty of attractions, Hydra is very popular because of its extremely beautiful capital, brimming with red-tiled houses and stone-paved narrow alleys. Once the destination of fashionable artists during the 50s and 60s, today it attracts thousands of visitors, who come to discover the island’s cosmopolitan character, enjoy the many sandy beaches and indulge in vibrant nightlife that can last till dawn. Moreover, like many islands, Hydra boasts that it has 365 churches, one for every day of the year, so you have a great choice of attractions to see that will keep you busy all day long.
Kefalonia
Also known as Cephalonia, Kefallonia or Kefallinia Greek, Kefalona is one of the most authentic islands in Greece, which is also the largest island of the Ionians. Stunning deserted beaches, clear sea, mountainous cliffs and pinewoods, and scenic landscapes combine to make the island a beautiful getaway, where there is no end to fun and adventure, both land and water. In a nutshell, Kefalonia holidays are all about stress-free simplicity and are ideal for those who plan to make the most of the sun, sea and sand.
