There are tons of amazing places to spend your break in the Sunshine state, but in case you are struggling with where to begin your planning, Florida4less have got the low down on the top Florida destinations – so why not visit one of them during your next Florida holidays in 2014?
1. Orlando
Probably the most popular area of Florida for visitors, Orlando hosts an array of entertainment and attractions to keep you busy for your entire stay. Home of the famous Disney World, there are tons of other places to entertain you, such as SeaWorld and Universal Orlando. There plenty of places to stay and lots to keep the kids occupied while you relax.
2. Miami
Miami is famously portrayed on TV as a paradise of beaches and palm trees. Well it is all that and more! Miami is one of the largest fashion and commerce centres in the world and is known for its celebrity fans and great nightlife. There is something for everyone in Miami and you won’t have to look hard to find it.
3. The Keys
The Keys are becoming increasingly popular, and currently play host to over a million visitors every year. The Keys are a string of islands that can be accessed via the Overseas Highway. Each island is different and they have become hugely popular with both fishermen and divers. The Keys have a wealth of history between them, with the former home of Ernest Hemingway located on Key West. There is so much to do that a day trip just may not be enough.
4. Amelia Island
With 13 miles of stunning beaches, this is the perfect place to go if you are in need of a calm and relaxing holiday. In 2010, Amelia Island was voted 5th among the Top 10 North American Islands by Conde Nast readers. Explore the island by horseback or foot and spend your day on the golf course or in the shops – there is so much to do and so many places to do nothing if that’s what your holiday is all about.
5. Sanibel
The beautiful island of Sanibel is the perfect beach retreat. One of the prime shelling locations in Florida due to its east-west orientation, this is the perfect place to find all sorts of wildlife including herons and alligators at JN ‘Ding’ Darling National Wildlife Refuge. A car is not even needed as you can cycle round the various bike paths that can be found around the entire Island.
6. The Everglades
The Everglades are much more than just a swamp; they are a delicate eco system that has been there practically forever. Not only can you enjoy the thrill of a swamp buggy or hovercraft while exploring them, but you can also walk, cycle and kayak around to enjoy nature at its best. You are bound to see an alligator on your travels, and the natural surroundings and incredible silence may simply take your breath away.
7. St Augustine
Whether you are travelling as couple and looking for a bit of romance, or visiting as a family and looking for fun for everyone, St Augustine has it all. The city has a rich history and many museums to show for it. With charming little cafes and horse drawn carriage rides, you are sure to leave feeling somewhat enchanted.
8. Daytona
The clear blue waters and miles upon miles of sparkling white sand have made Daytona Beach and incredibly popular destination for visitors of every age. If you can bring yourself to leave the beach, there are many other attractions and activities for the whole family to get involved.
9. Naples
When you arrive on the beach in Naples, it may be hard to decide what you want to look at first, the glistening waves, rolling gently onto the shores beside you, or Millionaires’ Row. The incredible row of mansions was started by President Cleveland’s sister, Rose, who built a house on the beach after staying in the first Naples hotel. A very relaxed place to visit, the sleepy city of Naples will encourage you to spend days lounging on the beach, before hitting some of the swanky restaurants when night falls.
10. Panama City Beach
One of Florida’s most loved and well known beaches, there is plenty to do including fishing, diving and an array of water sports. Home to two state parks and some legendary attractions, there are waterfront restaurants serving fresh local seafood all day long. With a coastline that faces somewhat towards the west, you can watch the sun set over the Gulf of Mexico every single day.
As you can see, you are spoilt for choice when visiting Florida. There is something for everyone, depending on whether you are visiting for a big family holiday or just a quiet romantic getaway.
