Preparing yourself to go abroad for a long period of time can be a mentally and emotionally challenging process. One of the most stressful parts of the pre-departure procedure is insurance, it can be tricky when it comes to deciding where to purchase insurance and you sometimes find yourself thinking “Is this really necessary? Nothing’s going to happen to me.” However, the reality is that travel is unpredictable; you never know when you are going to experience health problems or problems with your possessions, so it’s best to be protected. There is an interesting infographic (scroll down to see and click to enlarge) available for you to read about some cases of other people who have experienced problems abroad. This infographic can provide you with useful information as to why it’s essential to have insurance when you are going away.
Real Life Example: One of my neighbors was scheduled to go away to Italy recently but unfortunately due to unforeseen, family related circumstance they could no longer go away at that time and wanted to change the dates of their holiday. Unfortunately, they thought nothing would go wrong when they were booking it so everything was booked and they were ready to go, but they had not bought themselves insurance. This led to huge complications, and I mean HUGE, they had to change their whole holiday and the incurring costs were massive as it was so close to the departure date. The airline weren’t particularly helpful or sympathetic to their situation, so it took them almost a week to sort everything out when they obviously had bigger problems to worry about not to mention the added extra stress of having to fork out loads of money to pay for the costs of changing their holiday. The point I am trying to get across is that if they had insurance, their insurance company would have been able to sort all this out. Ok they may have had to sort some things out themselves but for the most part the overall stress and costs incurred would have been drastically reduced. In my opinion, it’s really not worth the risk!
Take my advice!
In sum, because we aren’t psychic (although some of us claim to be) you don’t know what the future has in store. Therefore, take the safer option and invest in insurance. Having round the world trip insurance will help you in the long run; you will save yourself the hassle and expense if something does happen. Even worse, you do not want to be away and something happen which you will then have to sort out and worry about throughout your holiday. When it comes to insurance, do not take the gamble, it honestly isn’t worth it (I have been through some insurance troubles myself) and it’s not worth taking the risk. Play the safe bet and ensure that your holiday/travels run as smoothly as possible. Some other tips for your holiday travel…
