Even the end of the military actions that took place in these countries wasn’t able to unwrap the developed reputation. Stereotypes are strong, and many travelers are still trying to sidestep the states the way newspapers are still trying to publish a lot of unknown and unusual information about them.
Pakistan
As becoming an unusual country ending by -stan it makes people nervous to travel there. This young Islamic country appeared on the map after the partition of British India in 1947, but the actual inhabitants have a history of several millenniums. The fights between India and Pakistan was in late 1960 – early 70-ies . Until now, some border areas with Afghanistan are dangerous , and it’s not worth it to go there. But in the rest of the country it is quiet. Why not to visit Lahore, which can be reached from New Delhi? This town, located on the East, on the border with India is rather old. Long ago it’s emperor Shah Jahan built the famous Taj Mahal in memory of his beloved wife.
Haiti
This beautiful country has suffered of civil war, natural disasters and corruption for decades. Anyways in 1960 the state became a popular resort centre. Peacetime did not last long: when in 1991 the military came to power, Haiti once again stepped into poverty and violence. The country is still poor, but again there are number of tourists wishing to lie down on the beach getting tan and join the West African heritage .It is easy to get there. Many major airports have direct flies to Haiti on a daily basis.
Laos
Laos played an important role in Vietnam War, since then many associate it with bombing and the blood jungles. The peace agreement was signed in 1973, then with the support of Vietnam and the Soviet Union Lao People’s Democratic Republic was formed, and by the end of 1980 the regime has softened . Today the safety in this country is guaranteed, regardless of whether you choose to relax in the capital or go to an unknown countryside. There are first-class hotels in big towns. Visitors wait for the tour along the Mekong River, familiarity with ancient Buddhist temples. The number of tourists Laos is much less compared with the neighbor countries: it has no outlet to the sea.
Sri Lanka
For over 30 years the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam- an anti-governmental organization, staged attacks in this country. The capital and other major cities were bombed several times, although mostly in the North, where tourists stopped going long ago. After several special operations fighting subsided and the government declared victory over the separatists. However many travelers believe that the risks are greatly exaggerated, and the pleasure that can be obtained from visiting Sri Lanka, is disproportionately more.
Korea
North Korea gained an image of tough, authoritarian state in the Western world. However, in recent years the regime softened: the South Koreans were able to see relatives, and tourists were able to have a tour covering both countries. But the case of the detention of American journalist, who made a report on the Chinese side of the border, again raised the question: Is it safe in this country? However, if you do not violate local laws and orgnize anti-governmental actions , your safe tour is guaranteed.
hi there

Hi,
The info on Korea seems a little misleading as South Korea is a very safe, hospitable and beautiful country- in stark contrast to their Northern neighbours. It’s difficult to travel to North Korea at the moment and your photo is of Namdaemun in Seoul, South Korea.
