Some of the Asian countries are considered to be exotic due to their location and the offer of the unique resort spots. While China is somewhat different in terms of being exotic due to the landscape and cultural diversity, still the approach to this country needs to be somewhat specific. We suggest you learn from the mistakes of the others and to know in advance, what you should avoid doing in China.
Do not travel during “Golden Week”
In the Chinese calendar, there are two sacred holidays, when every Chinese person is seeking to be reunited with his family, no matter how far he may be. Because of this, in late September – early October (October 1, China is one of the main holidays – Day of the PRC), and a couple of weeks in February, marking the Lunar New Year’s calendar, turn into all-China vacations. Transportation overcrowded, tickets are hard to get, I would say that it is almost possible, the prices in shops and restaurants are beyond the usual ones, and the only thing that can be admired – it’s endless festivities. Incidentally, the May holidays in the country are marked in much the same way.
It’s better to choose to visit China at a more appropriate time. Especially because China is such a large country there is something to do at any time of year. In the summer you can always just ride a bike, explore the massive tourist mountain region Yanso in autumn without fearing the heat, walk along the Great Wall of China, and in the winter to study the north-eastern part of the country or relax at the resorts of Hainan.
Do not rely on English
In China, unlike in many countries around the world, most people do not speak English. In the best case, a passerby on the street will be able to play Hello!, How are you? or What is your name?. Going into a lengthy explanation, they are not capable. If you still need to practice your English, looking for students or white-collar workers, you are likely to get what you want with much greater chance. And even better – do not forget your native language. Many Chinese, especially in areas close to the Russian border, are talking the Russian language if you are familiar with that language. And of course, not to hurt you, out of pure courtesy, learn a couple of basic phrases in the native dialect for local residents.
Do not discuss the Chinese government
For the Chinese the government – a mother and father home. They do not let anyone to make critical remarks about their country. You yourself can think of anything in your mind, but that’s dirty linen in public stand is not accepted. It is better to look for other topics for conversation. The Chinese are proud of all that is associated with their age-old national subjects, and because of that the conversation about cooking, china and tea are always happy to support it. Moreover, you can learn a lot about the seemingly well-known things.
Do not neglect the power of Baijiu
This rather famous Chinese liquor, or rather vodka type of drink of China, has one insidious property: it is contraindicated to interfere with other drinks. Otherwise ill hangover is guaranteed. During a party on any auspicious occasion, making yourself to drink a glass of drink for each toast, will quickly get you drunk and make you to talk a lot . Therefore, it is better take the initiative in your hands. Whoever when toasting, you can only sip the liquid, not drinking it up to end. So, if you do not want to get drunk, have to “untie the language” in advance.
Do not get carried away staring at the bare asses of the children
For young Chinese it is absolutely normal to celebrate big and small need right where it comes out to them. If there is a lawn, baby will run there, well even in a crowded place, for example, in the middle of the shopping center, the mother will lovingly hold a special package under the squatting child. In order to remove their pants every time is not accounted for, and thus they provided a long incision along the posterior suture. The child sits down – half pants apart and you’re done. The main thing – try not to laugh out loud the first time seeing it. And, being strongly amused, do not try this “feat”. These pants of large size, alas, are not sold.
Do not be afraid of local food
All of these fish heads, stinky tofu, dog meat, and chicken legs only look inedible, in fact, among the street food there is surely something that will fit your taste. And so you can be sure it is cooked all the abundance of fresh ingredients. By the way, unsanitary conditions also should not be afraid of. Chinese consider the kitchen the dirtiest place in the house, but because they do not really care about the purity of it. Nevertheless, few tourists had complained in this country for stomach problems, which very often happens in a more civilized countries. Better to relax, to learn the Chinese names of major products and go camping at the local eatery.
Keep in mind that if you were invited to dinner the Chinese eating every last crumb is not necessary, or invited will think that he has not spent on enough hospitality of the guest and will get upset. However, to leave on the plate too much is also undesirable, he may decide that the proposed food did not fit your taste.
Do not go to zoos
Even if you do not belong to a society of “green”, you are unlikely to get pleasure with the seed thin and slaughtered animals, who only think about food. The Chinese treat animals very badly, and due to this fact in the news there are frequent reports of how they killed a tiger in a cage and it eaten by his relatives or due to the bestial hunger panda attacked the superintendent. Even if you like zoos in China, such places should be avoided. Maybe someday the Chinese will think, and stop this barbarism and the zoo will turn into something awesome.
Do not buy a proprietary technique
Widespread belief is that China’s cheap products have no reasons beyond it. In this country are really cheap only th locally-produced goods, but “native” Imported machinery here is incomparably more expensive than the same in Japan. If so you need to bring from China some newfangled technical things, you better go to Hong Kong. There, at any rate, shopping is not as painful hit on the wallet. In principle, the country is more interesting for the local products. And you better take what is exclusively produced here: the dishes from the finest porcelain, tea, silk products, carpets and pearls.
It’s not ture…
